North Macedonia: With simple and racist behavior, the Bulgarian parliamentarian and citizen insulted all Roma

The commemoration of the 151st anniversary of the death of Gotse Delchev should not be missed without offending the Roma community in Macedonia. In the video that appeared in the media, it is clearly seen how Bulgarian citizens and journalists at the border crossing Deve Bair, with a high tone and obscene words, address the members of the Macedonian police with the words: "I want to go to the grave of Gotse Delchev, and you Here Gypsies make it difficult for me to enter" were the words of the MP from the Prerodba party, Angel Georgiev

This inappropriate way with simple and racist behavior on the part of the MP and part of the Bulgarian citizens, is for every condemnation, and does not show at all the civilizational values of a country that is part of the EU.

Apparently, the Roma are mentioned only in a bad connotation, and lately it is more and more common. Given that in Macedonia, the entry of Bulgarians into the constitution of Macedonia is being initiated, it is now necessary to seek public condemnation of this event and this behavior.

But considering the event that took place on February 4 this year at the Deve Bair border crossing, and apart from the information that the police showed their composure and professionalism, no Macedonian institution or even the media asked for a public condemnation and reaction to the terminology that was used. by the Bulgarian MP.

It seems that this is a common practice and a "minor detail" in that civilized democratic world when it comes to the Roma.

The phenomenon of insulting the Roma by spreading national-fascist hatred is still prevalent, unfortunately in the 21st century.

34.1 percent of Roma girls in Serbia are in forced marriage

As many as 34.1 percent of Roma girls between the ages of 15 and 19 are currently married or out of wedlock!

Despite that, according to UNICEF data, the centers for social work immediately intervened in only 29 percent of detected cases, ie they estimated that less than a third endangered the life, health and development of a child in need of protection.

The latest research of "Praxis" showed, however, that less than half of the centers keep special records on child marriages (43 percent). The centers have detected only 313 cases of risk of child marriages in the previous two years, while current UNICEF data show that only 21 percent of children managed to return to the primary family.

Children were not aware that selling children and forcing minors to marry is a criminal offense. They also expressed complete distrust in the institutions, because the authorities did not react appropriately in any situation known to them, and they do not know of a single case in which child marriage was prevented.

German media - against stereotypes about Roma

The Amaro Foro Association in Berlin is working to raise awareness of discrimination against Roma by organizing workshops where journalists can develop greater intercultural sensitivity.

It also conducts awareness-raising campaigns on Roma discrimination.

- Journalists label people as Roma only when they match a certain pre-conceived image, for example when reporting on an informal camp in a park. It is problematic for journalists to focus on such stories, which creates a distorted image of the Roma.

The organization asked the German media to publish more positive stories about the Roma. In addition, they hope that more Roma journalists will give space to their community to tell their stories.

Drone footage shows the industrial pig farm that overlapped the concentration camp site in Lety u Písku, Czech Republic is completely demolished

The industrial pig farm that was once built over part of the grounds of the WWII-era concentration camp imprisoning Roma and Sinti people at Lety u Písku has now been demolished. Two parts of a feed hall from the farm are all that is left and will be part of the permanent exhibition there.

The industrial pig farm was in operation there from the 1970s until the spring of 2018, when it was built on the grounds of what had been called the “Gypsy Camp” there. More than 1,300 Roma and Sinti were forcibly imprisoned there and it was a de facto concentration camp.

At least 326 people died there, most of them children. After all of the remaining prisoners were transported en masse to the Auschwitz II-Birkenau Concentration Camp, the buildings of the Lety concentration camp were razed to the ground and set on fire in 1943.
