In Bulgaria there are cases when entire Roma settlements have moved to Germany

Tren is that there is organized migration from Bulgaria to Germany. More than 81,000 Bulgarian children receive help from the German state, informs Nova TV. According to the information, entire Roma settlements from Bulgaria leave and settle in the ghettoes in Duisburg and Dortmund.

More than 11,000 Bulgarians lived from the accession of Bulgaria to the European Union in Duisburg. Here entire villages from northeastern Bulgaria moved. What attracts them is the German social system. Similarly, in Dortmund - the dream of the inhabitants of the Stolipinovo district of Plovdiv - seems to be the same.

Children's accessories are the main target of people who leave Stolipinovo. Their height in Germany is about 200 euros per child. The requirement is at least one parent to work on a contract for 450 euros a month or a registration address. No one in Germany can say whether there are real people behind the number of children registered to receive benefits.

Roma people tell of ancestors’ 1923 ‘population exchange’ stories

Turkish emigres from Greece often reminisce about their days in their former homeland before their exodus in a population exchange in 1923. But little is known about the Roma people among those Turks who also had to leave their homes at the end of World War One.

Survivors and their grandchildren are now opening up and telling their stories.
Within the context of the Treaty of Lausanne of 1923, Turkey and Greece agreed on a major population exchange of two million people based on their religion.

As part of the agreement, over one million Greek Christians and 500,000 Muslim Turks in Anatolian and Greek lands were uprooted.

In order to register the assets of exchangees in Greece, that were to be left to the government in exchange for Ottoman gold, commissions were established and payments, along with registrations, were made with “requisition for settlement” documents.

A group within the exchangees was Roma people from the Lagkadas region of Greece’s northern city of Thessaloniki, who travelled to Turkey by sea and scattered throughout the country.

MAPP: More than 25,000 families await the new Law on Social and Child Care

Representatives of the Macedonian Anti-Poverty Platform sent a request to the Speaker of the Parliament, Talat Xhaferi, as well as to all MPs in the near future to be put on the agenda and the new Law on Social Protection and Child Protection passed.

- We want to point out the harm that directly affects a very marginalized group. More than 25,000 families await adoption of this law, which does not address the problem of poverty, but gives hope for leaving the circle in which they have been spinning for a long time, said Zoran Bikovski, a representative from MAPP.

He pointed out that the persons from socially endangered families still live with social assistance in the amount of 2,000 denars, (35 euros) instead, as he said, the same provision of the law, referring to the amount of social assistance, should be replaced with a minimum income that will allow for a four-member family of at least 9,000 (150 euros) to 11,000 denars (185 euros) if their children attend school.

- This means introducing an educational allowance, and for the families of beneficiaries of social assistance, the introduction of child allowance, says Bikovski.

He pointed out that more than 5,000 families are waiting for an old-age pension to be introduced, which will allow people who do not have 15 years of service to be eligible for income.

The Largest Roma Ghetto in Europe – Stolipinovo, Bulgaria

Stolipinovo, a ghetto neighbourhood near to the center of one of Europe’s oldest and most historical cities, can safely be described as third-world, poverty stricken, rampant with disease, heavily polluted, and somewhat shocking.

As many as fifty-thousand predominantly Roma people are densely packed into concrete communist-era apartment blocks, or within the surrounding tapestry of hobbled-together shacks and shanties. In both cases, many survive without running water.

Much of the district is covered in a putrid sea of trash. Broken sewerage and water pipes leave large pools of fetid water along the main boulevards. Not so long ago, a hepatitis epidemic ran through the area. Unemployment and crime, are off the charts. Many children don’t attend school.

Until now, they had only read and seen tales from Stolipinovo in the local media – dominated by reports of drugs, murder, crime, and poverty. Now, they would see for themselves just what the ghetto down the street was all about.
