An Italian teenager opposed the fascists who protested against the Roma

A 15-year-old boy who opposed extreme right-wingers during the protests won sympathies in Italy.

A boy named Simeone was shot on Tuesday defending national minorities during protests by far right-wing activists in Rome.
They protested against the migration of 70 Roma to shelters in the region. While one of the leaders of the neo-fascist party "CasaPound" told reporters that the locals did not want the Roma, Simeone raised his hand intervened with the words "I do not agree with you"

- What you are doing here in Torre Mauri is the exploitation of the frenzy of people here in my neighborhood. You turn that anger into your voices and your interests. If a Roma enters my house and steals, they will all go out in the streets to protest against all Roma. But if an Italian gets into my house and steals people, they will be silent.
I do not come across that you always attack minorities.

The video footage of Simeone became a virtual hit for several hours and released all Italian and several world media. Some novelties have also been described as "a new hero on the left"

Otherwise, in the video of the protests published by "La Repubblica", the demonstrators showed how they threw food destined for the Roma, and voices are heard as someone yells: "They must starve!"

ERRC: Europe has an increase in the collective punishment of Roma for individual offenses

The European Roma Rights Center (ERRC) published a list of facts condemning the acts of collective punishment of the Roma community in 10 European countries.

The publication was published during the "EU Roma Week" event, held in the European Parliament of March 18-21, and pointed out examples of violations committed against Roma by state authorities and far-right groups.

The fact sheet highlights the collective punishment against Roma in Europe, disputes the collective perception of Roma, where racist officials use them as justifiable but unlawful punishment of the entire community, for alleged crimes of some Roma individuals.

The ERRC condemns the violation of individual rights, and consider that collective punishment is one of the most extreme manifestations of anti-Roma sentiment in Europe, writes European Interest.

"Regardless of the society where public institutions allow the collective punishment of an ethnic group, where several people are susceptible to a crime, or simply because they are poor, violating the fundamental principles of any state where the laws of a lawful state are governed", the director of the ERRC , Adam Weiss

Hungarian bishop complains about the situation of the Roma in the country

The Hungarian Bishop Janos Szekely warns of the consequences of social exclusion of the Roma in his home country. In the majority of communities inhabited by Roma in the northeast and south of Hungary, there is "huge misery", complained the diocesan bishop of Szombathely in an interview for the current issue of the Catholic weekly "Uj Ember".

Unemployment is high, school education is of the lowest quality and people feel a sense of hopelessness. "The longer the social advancement of the Roma is postponed, the closer we come to a split in the country", feared Szekely, the Rome Apostolic Commissioner of the Hungarian Bishops' Conference.

Politics and Hungarian society abandoned people instead of using resources for their equality. In the regions inhabited mainly by Roma, in the face of the situation, there is a longing for the emergence of a separate Roma country. "Far and wide we hear of the Roma: If a country does so little for us, then it is better to go their separate ways," said the Bishop.
