How to increase the employment of vulnerable returnees?
UNDP and the EU support solutions for employment among the vulnerable categories of returnees in the country.
The majority of the returnees are Roma, and mostly they decide to leave the country because of poverty, unemployment and discrimination. According to UNDP estimates carried out in 2021, the majority of asylum seekers and returnees are between 30 and 44 years old, with a low level of education.
The number of people with similar paths in North Macedonia is not small, and employment is indicated as the biggest challenge reported by the returnees.
- We take a comprehensive approach to ensure returnees and Roma improve their employment opportunities, our EU-funded regional project works in Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia to support institutions with solutions for the economic and social reintegration of vulnerable returnees, says UNDP .
