On Saturday June 12, the 6th Congress of the political party Alliance of Roma of Macedonia was held in Hotel Alexander’s Palace. As previously announced, the Congress was under the motto “Visionary for the Roma” Plan and Platform for advancement of the Roma in North Macedonia. The Congress was attended by members and sympathizers of the party Alliance of Roma of Macedonia, high profile guests from the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, Deputy Prime Minister Ljupcho Nikolovski, minister for Health Venko Filipce, collaborators and representatives from the political block. During the congress, a video was promoted for the life and work of the long-lived leader of the party and Member of Parliament, the now deceased Amdi Bajram for the past years as an active political entity. Among others, and the President of the Alliance of Roma, Gabriel Bajram had a speech and presented some of the commitments of the party, which will focus on the future. The impression is that SRM will continue to be one of the leading Roma political entities that will worthily represent the Roma community in our country.

The Supreme Court for Discrimination in Bulgaria has convicted Krasimir Karakachanov for the statement against the Roma on the 8th of January 2019 in the Vojvodinsko village in Plovdiv – said the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, as published by Bulgarian media.

“The Gypsies in Bulgaria have become really rude. Several years ago they beat up a police officer, two days ago they were beating up the army. The tolerance of the Bulgarian society is close to a boiling point” This refers to the case in Vojvodinovo, when two Roma men attacked a Bulgarian man from the village. The attackers were identified and later convicted.

The speech of Karakachanov received an immediate reaction from the majority of the Roma population. According to the court, of particular importance is the fact that the statements of Karakachanov were widely spread throughout the media, as well as the fact that he did not criticize the individuals who committed the crime, but that he spoke for the whole ethnic group.
