The United Nations estimated 3 weeks ago that the number of confirmed civilian casualties in Ukraine is approximately 18,000, the agencies report.
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) estimated that the actual number of Ukrainian casualties was "significantly higher", but that it was difficult to obtain reliable data from the frontline areas. From February 24, when Moscow launched its invasion of Ukraine, to December 26, 17,831 civilian casualties were recorded, of which 6,884 were killed and 10,947 were wounded. Among the killed are 429 children, the UN agency announced.
