The latest report by the Council of Europe's independent expert bodies on racism and intolerance alleges that "Roma, Muslims, Jews and blacks" are a longtime target of prejudice, discrimination, xenophobic rhetoric and violence in Europe.
"Xenophobic nationalism very often still portrays Islam as a religion that is alien to the national culture and identity of other EU member states.
The anti-Muslim rhetoric towards Muslims who have the features of their religion further exacerbates the situation of Muslim women in particular, "the report said.
Extreme forms of violence against Roma based on skin color and social marginalization are also cited.
It is estimated that there is growing social and economic insecurity among Europeans, and this is increasing intolerance by ultranationalist and nationalist parties in some countries.
