The boy Dusan Jovanovic, 13, was brutally killed by two "skinheads" in downtown Belgrade on October 18, 1997.
Little Dusan that fateful Saturday night demanded money from his father to buy juice at a nearby local market.
The boy was intercepted by two 17-year-olds who first demanded money and then struck him on the asphalt and struck him with their feet in the head. And the reason was banal. Because Dusko was - Roma.
The killers were caught and convicted, and one at the trial stated that he did not regret what he had done.
After the tragedy, Dusan's parents moved from downtown Belgrade, where they were convicted of killing their son. They moved to the Orolovska naselje in Mirjevo. By then, there was no more life for Dusan's parents. His mother repeatedly tried to take her own life with salicylic acid, then with pills and finally in August 2015, she was hanged.
Three years after Dusan's death, his father suffered his first heart attack, and then several more. Two strokes survived. Because of thrombosis, both legs were amputated. Died in 2016.
The only dumb witness is Dusan's sister, Christina, 19, who was born three years after his death.
The Dusan killers, Milan Cujic and Istvan Fendrik of Zemun then as seventeen-year-old boys, were sentenced in March 1998 to a 10-year prison sentence by the Belgian District Court and released after 6.5 years in prison.
