Aleksandar Baurov Russian Roma from a family of famous artists, musicians and singers. He played guitar in the ensemble, but also studied electromechanics and communications in Leningrad. During World War II, he was appointed liaison commander in support of the Red Army and later became commander of the 1st Airborne Division. After the war and by then a highly decorated hero, he joined the Soviet Corps of Engineers, which built and launched the first Soviet rockets and played a significant role in the Sputnik 1 program
On October 4, 1957, Sputnik 1 was successfully launched into Earth orbit in honor of the October Revolution.
It was launched from a cosmodrome belonging to the then USSR in Baikonur, now Kazakhstan.
