Gynecologist Muhammed Asani, who provided health services in an illegal clinic in his house, and among the clients was the mother in labor Yaldz Veaposka, who later lost her organs, received a suspended sentence. The Basic Court in Struga clarified that the gynecologist was convicted of providing health conditions without a work permit. Asani received a ban from the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate for performing activities in an unregistered practice. According to the verdict, the gynecologist must not commit a new crime in the next four years, otherwise, he will have to spend two years in prison.
Both the defendant and the Prosecutor's Office filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal in Bitola against this decision, which means that the appeals are handled, and the verdict is not final. The woman in labor was admitted to the hospital on August 27, 2020 for giving birth in the gynecology department, as she was in the 40th week of pregnancy. She was received by the first defendant who treated her as a patient throughout the pregnancy and made the decision that the delivery should be performed by caesarean section.
During the operation, the second defendant assisted him, but during the caesarean section, they damaged the left renal artery, after which Veaposka's uterus, ovary and one kidney were removed.
