The police have found human remains in the Toledo landfill where they had been searching for weeks for Ángel Fernández Silva, an 11-year-old boy who disappeared in Madrid on December 10 along with his cousin, Fernando Fernández García, 17. The latter's body was found on one of the complex's conveyor belts on December 15 and his identity was confirmed a week later. For this reason, from that moment the agents had delimited an area in which they calculated that the body of his cousin could be, where he ended up being found early this Wednesday morning. Sources close to the investigation assure that a foot and some other parts of the body have been found.
The main hypothesis that the police are considering is that the two cousins voluntarily left Madrid for Toledo to visit some girls from another family. Once in the city of La Mancha, the minors were cold, they got into a container and a truck took them without them noticing. This is how they ended up at the recycling plant, which is located far from population centers and is difficult to access. This is one of the lines of investigation, which gained strength after the autopsy of the first boy showed that his death had not been violent, but that he died due to lack of air.
The first police investigations pointed out, however, that the disappearance could be a "revenge between families", due to an alleged "mess of skirts", according to sources close to the investigation. However, people in the deceased's environment deny this possibility in principle, although they assure that "the reasons for what has happened will be known very shortly", without ruling out feuds between families. "The family is devastated, they do not understand what could have happened to them," they insist. The minors' relatives await news at their homes in Vallecas.
The last time they were seen was in a shopping center in the Carabanchel neighborhood, where they were with their family doing some shopping. At one point, they said they were going to eat a sandwich in another establishment in the mall and walked away from their relatives. The police have images of the two cousins taking the metro at a nearby stop.
Now it is necessary to carry out tests on the remains found to verify if they actually correspond to the missing boy. In addition, the police will continue to search for more remains in the same area, waiting to be able to confirm through analysis that the remains are those of Ángel. Since the body of the older cousin was located, the agents marked off an area of the recycling plant in which some 10,000 tons of garbage accumulate. In the search operation of "extreme difficulty" canine guides, the scientific and judicial police and two backhoes participate.
