Maya Ruiz-Picasso, the eldest daughter of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso to whom her father dedicated several paintings, died yesterday at the age of 88, her lawyer Richard Malka said.
"Maya Ruiz-Picasso passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by her family at the age of 88," the lawyer said in a statement without further details.
Born on September 5, 1935, María de la Concepción nicknamed Maya was his first child. An exhibition is underway in Paris about the daughter of Pabo Picasso and Marie-Thérèse Walter, who met in 1927.
Picasso, who died in 1973, had four children, and Maya was his first child.
In the Paris museum dedicated to the works of Picasso, paintings that the artist dedicated to Maya are exhibited, including "Maya with a doll", "Maya with a doll and a horse", "Maya in a sailor suit", "Maya with a boat" and "Maya with an apron."
In 2023, France and Spain will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso's death through several exhibitions.
