Almost all Roma are exposed to one or more health risk factors resulting from unfavorable housing conditions, indoor pollution, unsafe sources of drinking water, unsafe methods of wastewater disposal, unsafe methods of solid waste disposal from households, as well as exposure to workplace risks. And yet, in the largest number of households, the members are exposed to two to seven risks every day, according to the research "Life on the periphery", which was conducted by the Association for Emancipation, Solidarity and Equality of Women - ESE.
ESE stated that the research on the exposure and impact of environmental risks on the health and environment of Roma - residents of poor, informal settlements was conducted in 13 poor, informal Roma settlements, located in five cities and one village in North Macedonia.
- With the research, a whole range of qualitative and quantitative information was collected, by surveying 2,171 representatives of the same number of households living in those settlements, as well as representatives of the municipal administration of the municipalities of Šuto Orizari, Kumanovo, Prilep, Vinica, Delčevo and Pehčevo, stated by ESSAY.
