"Roma in Europe have a ten-year shorter life expectancy and a higher infant mortality rate than others" - this is the conclusion of the current report on human rights, which urges politicians to take action.
Roma and Sinti are the largest minority in Europe - and they are in the worst position. This is confirmed by a new report that comprehensively documents the state of Roma communities in Europe. The report was published by the European Network of Roma Organizations ERGO, and was recently presented by the Swedish politician Soraya Post. The prominent Roma activist was a member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2019. She is a member of the ERGO network, which brings together Roma organizations from over thirty countries.
The current ERGO report, among other things, shows that in the health care sector, Roma do not have the same treatment as other citizens. Thus, 22 percent of members of the Roma community have chronic diseases, and every fourth person does not have health insurance. These data come from national studies and confirm that Roma have more difficult access to health care in several EU countries.
