Safet Demirovi (45) is from the village of Lepenica and has been weaving baskets and willow twigs since childhood. He sells it in the villages and towns of southern Serbia, because that is how it exists.
He says that during the summer he picks willow twigs along the river South Morava. One of them peels and dries them.
- I learned this craft from the elders. We Roma from Lepenica are known for knitting baskets and baskets.
I knit the small baskets in about an hour. I need a little more time for a basket - says Safet. I sell small baskets for around 4.5 euros, and baskets for around 12 euros, but sometimes I lower them up to 8 euros. The people buy it poorly, because the villages are already poorly kept goods, so they do not need the basket. Now there is no difference in life in the village and the city. Someone does not have money for a basket, so I often accept food. Otherwise, the baskets are more often taken by the poorer ones, because the rich do not even want to buy them.
He mentions that in the winter he does more work, because in that period there is not much work in the fields as argat.
