"Gypsy as a Witness" - this is the title of one of the stories in the sixth grade electoral reading "Macedonian Humorous Folk Stories". In the text the Roma are described as fraudulent liars who falsely testify in court for money, Gender, racial, political with the examples we are now seeing and national - discrimination in the education system does not favor the civil society that Macedonia strives for - A society for all.
Also commendable is the initiative taken by Program Manager Elvis Shaqiri of Romalitiko with the statement on TV 24 regarding the discriminatory text and that a written procedure will be initiated against the Ministry of Education and Science for the content in question.
According to some information, the Ministry of Education, which compiled a new list of textbooks last year and promised a full revision of all textbooks, has not received any response to this topic. Whether or not the literature in question has been scrutinized and corrected, there is no answer so far from Minister Arber Ademi.
Often in these cases the Roma NGO sector is the "alarm" that indicates, aims and fights.
But is it any wonder where the Roma political leaders are here? As always they are the quietest in such cases!
They remain silent until it can explode like a gunpowder barrel!
And then they begin their well-known "agenda", first responding, reviewing the relevant institutions, revising to infinity.
People one thing should be clear. This is a classic example of anti-Gypsyism, which is unfortunately on the rise in our society. Changing the words "Gypsy" to Roma does not change the narrative and the way the Roma community is portrayed ... romanticized and full of stereotypes !!! Text or proofreading should be immediately discarded because it damages what we want to promote. concept of all in one society!
That is why the Roma Democratic Union - RDS, appeals and calls on the NGO sector, the Roma intellectual force, and all for an equal society for all, to make a petition that will be submitted directly to the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, the competent ministry, and others domestic and international institutions.
