In response to the reaction of the European Center for Roma Rights, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Leskovac changed the decision regarding the characterization of the attack on Roma in Turekovac that occurred at the beginning of April this year.
Then, the Leskovac police administration announced that on April 11 of this year, police officers from SV Leskovac, immediately after the victims reported that unknown persons were throwing stones and banging on the gates of houses, went to the spot and talked with the victims. and notified the competent prosecutor's office, which concluded that it was a criminal offense that was prosecuted by a private lawsuit. As was announced at the time by the Leskovac Police Department, with further work the police identified and found a twenty-two-year-old young man, as well as five nineteen-year-olds, against whom they will file appropriate misdemeanor charges under the Law on Public Order and Peace.
After this announcement and decision of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office, the European Center for Roma Rights submitted a petition to the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade regarding the actions of the Basic Public Prosecutor in Leskovac regarding the event of April 11, 2023. year, in the village of Turekovac.
