The Press Council calls on all colleagues to refrain from unprofessional and indecent reporting on families who have suffered a tragedy and lost a loved one.
The council also condemned the persecution of the family of the boy who died while trying to get off the city bus on Wednesday, as well as the publication of fabricated details about their lives and current situation. Circulation journalists first listened to family members on a daily basis, and then, not getting what they wanted, they fabricated the boy's grandmother's statement.
The persecution of a family that has just lost a child is not only a violation of basic professional standards, but also a violation of the reputation of our entire profession.
