Experts agree that the masks are a good protection because they create a strong barrier against the spread of the droplets responsible for transmitting the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
If you inhale these drops or somehow get into your mouth or nose, you may become infected. If you touch the mask that contains the virus, you may be exposed to an infection.
Since masks are now mandatory both indoors and outdoors, you are probably wondering: When can I stop wearing a mask?
Many experts will say: Not in due course.
By now, we all know that the mask is an excellent protective agent that prevents the release of the virus in an environment where other people can inhale it. The mask also offers some protection against inhaling the virus from another person. In short, wearing a mask will prevent the infection from spreading.
Given this, it is easy to conclude that we will stop wearing masks the moment we are sure that we can not transmit the virus. Well, in theory, there are several scenarios when we can all move around the world without masks.
Here are three scenarios:
* When there is evidence that the vaccine is available and used to such an extent that the number of infected is drastically reduced
* When "herd immunity" to coronavirus is achieved
* When we all become immune to the virus
The problem is that we do not know when any of this will happen and if it will. Some experts believe that the virus will be contagious and will be among us for the next five years. That model shows that the number of people infected with COVID-19 will continue to rise and begin to decline only when the vaccine is developed. The data indicate that we will have to continue to wear masks in order to prevent a large number of new cases of infection.
