The rate of poor people in 2019 was 21.9 percent, the State Statistical Office announced today. Families with 4 members are poor. Households where two adults and two children live is 19.5 percent, ie every 4th family in this category is poor. The highest poverty rate is in families with three or more children, in this category 45.3 percent or almost half of large families are poor. Single parents with children, where 42.8 percent are poor, also have a critical level of poverty. The lowest poverty rate is in the category of single households (one adult member aged 65 and over) and it is 3.2 percent, and the poverty rate is below 10 percent for singles. The rate of poor employees is 8.8 percent, while the rate of poor retirees is 7.8 percent. According to the data, in 2018, the rate of poor people in Macedonia was also 21.9. percent. In 2017, the poverty rate was 22.2 percent.
