European Commission Roma Policy Coordinator Marta Garcia Fidalgo and Leskovac Mayor Goran Cvetanovic visited the Roma settlements of Podvorce and Slavko Zlatanovic to learn about the results of European support for Roma inclusion.
Coordinator Marta Garcia, Hidalgo was particularly interested in whether there was discrimination against Roma in Leskovac.
As a particular problem they face when it comes to discrimination, it mostly concerns the employment of Roma.
"As a local government, Leskovac is perhaps the most tolerant city for the Roma population in Serbia, given the fact that Roma in Leskovac currently owe over 750,000 euros for consumed water, over 2 million euros for electricity, and 150,000 euros for utilities. The biggest problem that is causing everyone else is actually unemployment, "said Leskovac Mayor Goran Cvetanovic.
