Roksana Hajrizi, born in Kosovo yet having lived 23 of her 26 years in Canada, is leading a campaign for the thousands like herself who due to harsh anti-migrant laws face the imminent danger of deportation.
Her father has already been sent back to Kosovo and is reported to have gone into hiding. Fears among Roma have risen since the recent murder of Gani Rama in the streets of Pristina.
Meanwhile, Roksana is meeting officials in Toronto on Thursday [24 Oct] to discuss the re-opening of her case.
She says it is largely negligence and legal bungling that have brought herself, her sister Camila and their mother Celina, into
the perilous situation in which they now find themselves; stateless, unable legally to work and likely to have the family further broken up.
"I believe I got this interview due mostly through the pressure of my campaign," says Roksana. "We are getting the fight against deportation known across Canada and in Europe too. We ask all to join in".
