Antigypsyism

On this day in 1944 , 800 Roma children are gassed at Auschwitz

During the Holocaust, it wasn’t just the Jews who suffered at the hands at the Nazis although they bore the brunt of the racism and extermination at the hands of the Germans and their allies during World War II. The Gypsies were also persecuted during the reign of Hitler and his henchmen.

The Nazis at their death camp at Auschwitz gassed 800 children including over 100 boys between the ages of 9-14 on this day. How did this ever be allowed to happen?

The Gypsy people were hated by the Nazis, the definition of what constituted a Gypsy to the Nazis was often the same as what constituted a Jew in the racist writings of the Third Reich. As early as 1937, the roundup of Gypsies was beginning in Germany.

The Germans did little to conceal their murderous plans. In 1937, Dr. Robert Ritter, a racist with a medical degree gave a presentation in Paris on what would be the racial definition of Gypsies as the Reich considered Gypsies “asocial.” In December of 1937, Heinrich Himmler issued a decree that provided grounds to arrest people, not for committing crimes but for being “asocial.”

Top footballers to mark Holocaust Memorial Day with anti-racism video

Video featuring Harry Kane and Stef Houghton to be shown at this weekend’s FA Cup matches

Leading football players and managers have taken part in a video to be shown at fourth-round FA Cup matches this weekend urging people to stand up against hatred and discrimination.

The two-minute video, marking Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January, features Harry Kane, the England men’s captain, Steph Houghton, the England women’s captain, Frank Lampard, the Chelsea manager, Jürgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, and the Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker alongside two dozen others.

Close-ups of their faces are cut with images from the Holocaust as they deliver an uncompromising message directed at football fans and others who fail to call out racism and discrimination.

Süddeutsche Zeitung: Monument to Roma and Sinti

It all started with a temporary work of art on Sinti-Roma-Platz near the Bavariapark. 16 concrete pillars, arranged in a circle in 2007, commemorated the deportation of the Sinti and Roma during the Nazi era. Since then, such a monument has been on the wish list of the Greens in particular.

And it is now about to make a breakthrough: "It happens late, but it seems to be going in the right direction," said Florian Roth, the leader of the Greens in the town hall. The City Council's Culture Committee is due to launch a competition this Thursday. It is a "participatory work of art on the history and present of the Sinti and Roma" in a central location in the city.

The Sinti-Roma-Platz on Schwanthalerhöhe is therefore not automatically set. According to Roth, however, he remains in the race. The Greens politician is also called the most promising alternative for good: Ettstrasse in the old town. There, at the police headquarters, the first "Intelligence Service for Security Police Regarding Gypsies" was founded in 1899.

And from there, Sinti and Roma were deported to concentration camps; In 1943 there were at least 141 of them. The city council faction of Greens and Rosa Liste had already requested several times to commemorate this murderous part of history and to set up a cultural meeting place for Sinti and Roma in Munich in addition to an artwork. The initiative came primarily from the Schwanthalerhöhe district committee.

Croatia: Roma get jobs by phone, but when they see the offer they are rejected

Life in Slavonia is difficult for many but even harder when you are discriminated against on the basis of skin color and origin.

Human rights organizations are making efforts to reduce that trend, but without some major successes.

It is well known that most of the Roma in the Slavonia region are out of work. According to the 2011 census, around 2,000 Roma live in the settlement of Slavonia.

But according to statistics, only 2 percent of them are employed. Most of them are employed as seasonal workers or general workers in Public Enterprises.

Otherwise, as the sources say, the problem is with the nationality.
The phone calls get affirmative answers for the job, but when they appear immediately that option disappears mostly because of their physical appearance and nationality, and that it is a trend that is often repeated.
