János Bihari was an influential Roma composer and violinist from Hungary. He is one of the founders of Roma academic music and the music genre Verbunkos.
He was born on October 21, 1764, and died on April 26, 1827.
As a violinist and composer genius of music, he was very famous and enjoyed great admiration even from the famous Beethoven and Franz Liszt, both of whom used his melodies for their major works.
He was so brilliant that he played the violin at the coronation of Maria Luisa, Queen of Hungary.
Then he played at the Congress of Vienna in 1814, he played in front of rulers and ambassadors in 1820, and in many other places.
He composed 84 pieces of contemporary music, ballads and waltzes.
Despite the great discrimination and persecution of the Roma at that time, especially in Hungary, Janos Bihari found great acceptance even though he was a Roma. Everyone respected and appreciated him, even the nobles of that time and personally the royal family of Hungary.
