In 2016, today when the heart of one of the greatest giants of Roma music and song Esma Redzepova Teodosievska is ready to beat, it left a gap in the people.
A name that glorified Roma identity on every meridian.
Esma Redzepova was born in Skopje, August 8, 1943 and died in Skopje, December 11, 2016). She is a well-known Macedonian singer and humanitarian. It is called the Queen of Roma Music Worldwide. In 2013 received the prestigious title National Artist of the Republic of Macedonia.
Esma has so far "lied" to many nations. When she sang in Spain they thought she was a Hispanic Roma. In Russia, she "made a little mistake," so the audience thought she was from Uzbekistan. In Cologne an audience of 20,000 was silent in front of her voice. There was absolute silence in the concert hall like never before.
Esma Redzepova recorded and released more than 580 songs, including two platinum and eight gold discs. She performed more than 22,000 concerts, of which a third were held for charity. With Theodosievski Ensemble recorded 108 singles, 32 compact cassettes, 15 discs, six videotapes and numerous television shows.
Redzepova sang mostly in Romani and Macedonian, but also recorded songs in Serbian, Turkish, Hebrew, Greek and Hindi. Rexhepi songs often talk about love, sadness and marriage. One of her most famous songs called Chae Shukarie has become an anthem for all Roma around the world.
Esma often sang traditional songs, both Roma and Macedonian, but many of them are compositions. Teodosievski usually composes and edits poems, but Esma also composes some poems, including Chae Shukarie. She also choreographed the performances.
And after 3 years, there is still no settlement with the property and house that should represent the Museum of Humanity and Music. That procedure is still pending.
