Mud to the knees, through a yard dug where the sewer leads directly to a nearby stream, a goat tied to a tree, children chasing mud through the mud, waiting in line for the Polish WC is a picture of the Roma settlement of Bojnik in the south of Serbia.
The picture is like someone playing a time capsule or directly in one of Emir Kusturica's films! It's all in the 21st century. It was only in 2011 that they saw the first light bulb because they had no electricity before.
From the local wild landfill you hear a child's cry. They do not have a playground so they play in the dump.
It is just one of the 5 Roma settlements in Bojnik that have similar problems, and the municipality of Bojnik has 15% Roma or about 1650 Roma according to the 2011 census.
