Austrian meat prices were almost 50% higher than the European Union average last year, according to a study by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office.
It said Austrians paid 46% more expensive meat than the EU average, followed by Luxembourg, France and Belgium.
On the other hand, Poles and Romanians ate the cheapest meat in the EU last year.
Meat prices in Poland and Romania were 37 percent lower than the average in the EU, and similar prices were also found in Bulgaria and Lithuania.
